Songfacts®:

  • This is the lead single from Doves frontman Jimi Goodwins's debut solo album, Odludek. The song details Goodwin's past struggles with bringing tour-level drinking back into his everyday life. He explained to NME: "It's a precautionary song about mood altering substances in general, and a message that you don't have to have drink or anything else to be creative."
  • The song's music video was directed by Ceri Levy. He said of the clip: "Jimi and I first met in a forest in Herefordshire, went birdwatching and became firm friends. In the meantime Jimi produced his album and I said that I would have a look at developing a couple of ideas for animation."

Levy added: "When he told me that Odludek, which was the album title, was Polish for loner and 'Oh! Whisky' was going to be the first single, I had the idea of an animated solo starling trying to catch up with the rest of his flock but who gets distracted along the way. The starlings are all animated. We had only nine days to make the film but we got there and I am proud to be part of Jimi's story in some small way."
