Songfacts®:

  • This is the title track of the controversial 1975 album that featured Hendrix master recordings posthumously overdubbed by session musicians none of whom had ever even met the guitarist. The song is a thinly veiled warning to his girlfriend, groupie Devon Wilson, who was also involved with Mick Jagger. Jimi also wrote the song "Dolly Dagger" for her.
  • The original April 1969 recording can be heard on the 2013 album People, Hell & Angels. Jimi is joined on that version by bassist Billy Cox and drummer Rocky Isaac of the Cherry People.
