Songfacts®:

  • This track was recorded on March 18, 1969 at Record Plant Studios during a session with Jimi's old pal, saxophonist Lonnie Youngblood. Before Chas Chandler discovered him in the summer of 1966, Jimi had contributed guitar as a nondescript studio sideman for Youngblood on some sessions with various singers for producer Johnny Brantley. Three of these sessions yielded the Youngblood rhythm and blues styled singles "Goodbye, Bessie Mae"/ "Soul Food (That's What I Like)" and "Go Go Shoes" (Parts 1 & 2), plus five 45s by other artists. The pair remained friends up until Jimi's death in 1970.
