Songfacts®:

  • This song is about how addiction to drugs effects a relationship when one person is hooked and the other isn't. One person promises to quit but doesn't, and the other is left to find the one he loves in this drug addict ("'Cause right now I can't tell you from the drug..."). >>

  • George from AtlantaI am in love with someone who struggles with addiction. This song is so heartbreaking to me and I can relate to it. "You promised, you promised that you're done" is a lyric that sticks.
  • Victor from ArizonaBeing an addict, it doesn't matter how good of a support system you have, if you will want to really take advantage of that you will, if not....well then guess what, you ain't ready to really give up your bad habits. Even when you know yourself that you have that partner that will stick through all of your bulls--t. That in itself is almost a reason for you to keep doing drugs because you KNOW they will be there for you, even when you see them going through a hard time themselves to be there for you, as an addict your selfishness takes precedence over everything. That is the sick part about being an addict, because you exhaust all your resources until you wear them out. then you look for the next "sucker" that will feel sorry for you. I was addicted to meth for 3 years. Before that I would do a lot of ecstasy and cocaine, and even mix it. I ended up in the looney bin several times because I was so off my rocker. It is an embarrassing thing to tell. But I am not ashamed of it, because I have learned a lot throughout the process. I realized that even though I was going through tough times, I put myself in unfavorable situations because i was too weak to get MYSELF out of it. One thing I will throw out there, is, get yourself out the hole you think/feel you can't get out of. Whether you have family or not. It is SO EASY to be negative and because of that it is so easy to do stupid s--t like get high and find pity in others. Be strong. Stand up for yourself. Get out of that hole. Make your future happen to the best of your ability. Don't take it out on others that you do not know. Do not hate people that have a positive outlook on life. Whether they have been through what you have been through or not. Surround yourself with people that are doing better than you, because they will help you grow, they will teach you things that you do not know. Love yourself. Please. I am telling you from experience. I tried committing suicide. But not the ridiculous "im cutting myself for no reason" I went for the kill and was revived. Then i realized that the people around me that i affected were in worse pain than i was because of my selfishness. Stay strong everyone! I love you for you, and i respect your struggles.
  • Hugh from Oxford, Oxfordshire, United KingdomReally emotionally sung. Could be used on House or Nurse Jackie.
  • Theresa from Murfreesboro, TnBeautiful and heartbreaking song, this band knows how to compose such emotionally-drained songs.
  • Katie from Columbus, Ohthis song is so sad, but very good. i can hardly stand to listen to it bc drugs tore me and my ex apart. does it ever get any better?
  • Kasey from Wichita, Ksi lost the love of my life to x... he was addicted.. and i couldnt tell who he was... all of a sudden he didnt love me anymore.. i hated that drug.. it tore us apart.. now he is engaged to another drug addict.. and when i found out.. i listened to this song for.. 5 hours.. i will never do drugs again.. and i dont tolerate people who do... yea.. this is one of my favorite songs.
  • Lennonfan11 from Regawrhhrh, Icelandi really like this song because it sounds genuine. and unlike most longer songs it seems to go by relatively quickly, it doesn't drag, except for the rather draggy intro.
  • Karyn from Canadabeen here, felt that
it's no fun, and leaves you broken .
