Kim Ji-soo, known by the mononym Jisoo, is one fourth of the South Korean girl group Blackpink, who earned worldwide acclaim with their 2018 single "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du." In 2023, Jisoo followed in the footsteps of her bandmates and embarked on a solo career with the dance-pop single album, Me, featuring the popular song "Flower." Her first EP, Amortage, dropped in 2025.
Jisoo was born in Gunpo, a city in Gyeonggi Province in South Korea. Her older sister, Ji-yoon, a former flight attendant, appeared with her husband on the South Korean reality TV series Trio's Childcare Challenge in 2019. She also has an older brother, Jung-hoon, who co-manages Jisoo's label Blissoo, which she founded in 2024.
Jisoo always had creative aspirations, but she thought she'd become a writer or a painter rather than a performer. That all changed when she joined the drama club at her high school, the School of Performing Arts Seoul, in 11th grade. The budding actor was encouraged to gain experience by going on auditions, and her first tryout was with YG Entertainment, a South Korean talent agency and production company that was assembling the next big K-pop act. Beginning in 2011, Jisoo trained for five years in a rigorous song-and-dance camp alongside several other girls competing for a spot in what would become Blackpink.
Because she was the youngest sibling in her family, being the oldest member of Blackpink - nicknamed Unnie (older sister) by the other girls - was an adjustment. "I almost didn't want to believe it," she told Wired in 2023. "I was somewhat uncomfortable."
Like the other Blackpink girls, Jisoo is known for her slick dance moves and glamorous looks, with some of her original fashions going viral, such as the two-bow hairstyle and makeup she rocked for the group's "How You Like That" teasers. She's also modeled for high-end fashion houses and became the global ambassador for Dior.

While the world certainly thinks she's pretty, her own family didn't. Growing up, her relatives treated her like an outcast because they thought she was ugly. "They called me a monkey," the singer confessed in the group's 2020 documentary, Light Up The Sky.
As one of the group's lead vocalists, Jisoo earned marks for her professionalism from the staff at YG Entertainment. "She does have that professional poker face," producer/songwriter Teddy Park confirmed in Light Up The Sky. "I've know Jisoo for a good six years. I've seen her cry, once. She's super smart. A lot of people might think she's book smart, but I would say she's street smart."
Jisoo landed her first lead acting role in the South Korean TV series Snowdrop (2021-2022), a romantic drama set during the country's 1987 Democracy movement. She plays a South Korean university student who falls in love with a North Korean spy. Her performance earned her the award for Outstanding Korean Actress at the Seoul International Drama Awards in 2022.

She followed up with roles in the 2023 movie Dr. Cheon And Lost Talisman and the 2025 zombie TV series Newtopia.
In her 2023 Wired interview, she said her favorite Blackpink song is "Love To Hate Me" from 2020's The Album.
She developed a fear of ghosts after she started experiencing sleep paralysis, a condition that often induces scary hallucinations in the period before sleeping or fully waking while the body remains in a state of paralysis. She's also afraid of knives, which keeps her from learning how to cook outside of a few basic dishes.
During their 2022 world tour, the members of Blackpink took turns doing solo sets to showcase their individual talents and generate interest in their solo projects. Jisoo sang a cover of Camila Cabello's "Liar," which earned praise from the Fifth Harmony alum. The following month, Cabello joined Jisoo on stage as a surprise guest during Blackpink's stop in LA.
