Songfacts®:

  • This was a track from British singer-songwriter Joan Armatrading's fifth studio album, To The Limit. She told Melody Maker the inspiration for this song: "A woman musician I know, I was at her house and the day before she had found a letter in her bed – from another woman to her bloke. Something like that is very strong. I wanted to write about it. On the other hand I didn't want to write it too obviously like her thing because, well, she was so really upset."
