Songfacts®:

  • The first single from Damned Devotion, Joan Wasser wrote this tender, bewitching song of regret about "being a romantic and the naiveté that goes along with it."

She added: "While I don't ever want to lose that innocence, I've been in situations where I wish there had been an alarm to wake me from my dream state."
  • The song's music video was directed by New York filmmaker/artist H Spencer Young. Joan Wasser explained that she wanted the clip to capture the performance of the song without obscuring the power of the lyrics.

"Words mean different things to different people and it's important to me to allow the listener to have images of their own," she said. "That being said, the weather co-operated with us that night - rain and moisture in the air has always made me thoughtful. We wanted to capture the mystery of New York City while driving through Chinatown and parts of Brooklyn that hold deep meaning for me."
