Songfacts®:

  • "Saigon Bride" was written as a poem by Nina Duscheck, and set to music by Baez with a simple arpeggiated acoustic guitar backing. The song was originally copyright by Robbins Music Corporation and Chandos Music (ASCAP), 1967.
  • It remains to be seen if the bride was actually a bride, a lover, or even a prostitute, suffice it to say that this is no sort of love song but a typical Baez protest song, written at the height of the Vietnam War; Saigon is or was of course the capital of Vietnam. >>>
