Recorded with her band, the Blackhearts, "(Make The Music Go) Boom" is a track from Joan Jett's 2023 EP Mindsets.
The song speaks to the idea of rock 'n' roll as spiritual therapy, in a neat echo of Jett's biggest hit, "I Love Rock And Roll."

"We wanted to take it back to the purity of music being a release," she told Uncut magazine. "People have told me all through my career, but especially now, that music has saved their lives – or it gets them to the best time of their life. And I'm just honored to be part of that conversation. My goal is to make people feel good, I'll give them a sense that they can pull through and that they have a friend in our music. I know that sounds kinda silly and naive, but it's real."
Jett wrote the song with The Blackhearts guitar player Dougie Needles. She produced it with Kenny Laguna, who has worked with Jett throughout her solo career, and former Geffen Records Executive Thom Panunzio.
