  • Dowland composed this as an instrumental, "Lachrimae Pavane," in 1596. It means literally "Tears Pavane," a pavane was a contemporary dance. "Flow My Tears" is said to be his most famous ayre and became his signature tune. It is not to be confused with later songs of a similar name, of which there are at least three. >>
