Songfacts®:

  • "TC" was a boyfriend whom Grant dated for six months in the mid-1990s and was fêted as the "one and only" on the Queen of Denmark tracks "TC" and "Honeybear." However, he is referenced in less celebrated terms on Pale Green Ghosts, and on this song Grant calls him "supercilious, pretty and ridiculous." The singer admitted to UK newspaper The Observer that he considered calling the set The Anger Stage, after the Kübler-Ross model of grief. "It's much easier to kill your love for somebody if you can at least feel you hate them," he said.
  • Asked by The Observer why he continually references a six month relationship from so long ago, Grant replied that it was the first time he believed he'd found The One. "I've only experienced that once in my life and you really don't want to let it go," he said. "And I was angry because I couldn't just drop it and forget it. I wanted to let some of that anger out."
