Songfacts®:

  • This was the follow-up to "Shattered Dreams" from the Turn back The Clock LP, and it's an anti-war anthem. It's told from the perspective of an unwilling recruit who objects to fighting a war he believes is unjust and the rejection from others this stance brings him.
  • The song was a big hit in Johnny Meets Jazz's native Great Britain, where it peaked at #11 on the charts. It was almost not released in the United States, as the band's American record company feared it would be rejected as propaganda and cause the group to lose potential fans there. It was released anyway and did respectable business, peaking at #31 on the Billboard Hot 100. >>>
