Songfacts®:

  • This acoustic blues track by Johnny Shines was recorded in 1946, but it got a bump in 1971 when Shines made a brief appearance in an offbeat horror film called The Velvet Vampire (credited as Johny Shines).

He is seen playing at the beginning of the film shortly after a street predator makes the mistake of attacking and trying to rape femme fatale Diane LeFanu. Having stabbed the bad guy with his own knife, she calmly washes the blood off her hands in a street fountain to the strains of the Memphis bluesman. Sadly, the film does not get any better. >>>
