Songfacts®:

  • This song is about Ken Kesey, who was a famous writer and cultural icon of the '60s. Lead singer Jon Middleton was inspired by reading Tom Wolfe's book, The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, which tells the story of Kesey and his "Merry Pranksters" on a cross country trip aboard a colorful bus. "It basically follows Ken Kesey and his crew, the Merry Pranksters, around their whole scene," Middleton told us. "It was based around a kind of psychedelic, acid movement of the '60s, and freeing yourself from modern ties. The book was written by a very famous reporter named Tom Wolfe; he came as an outsider, kind of just followed these guys around and wrote the book. But the song is about moving, trying to keep forward on your path."
