Songfacts®:

  • Jon and Roy are a trio from Victoria, British Columbia, which is the "mountain town" in this song. Their lead singer/guitarist Jon Middleton told us: "It's a pretty mellow lifestyle here. It's a pretty sunny place in general. I think our lifestyle and the touring lends to that." Explaining why it can be quirky place to live, he added: "It's on an island. That means a lot in terms of how it shapes the culture and the mental state."
  • Jon Middleton uses various banking metaphors in this song, which he says are part of the culture he grew up with. "I think the whole money/bank thing comes from the way I view the economy," he said in our 2012 interview. "It's a cultural thing, too. We're all kind of taught that money makes the world go round."
