Songfacts®:

  • The Wonderlands is the second solo project from Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman. Sunlight is the first of four EPs, followed by Shadows, Darkness, and Dawn. While promoting the collection, the Christian rocker said he was "trying to explore the physical space of music. I wanted to create a place that would exist only when you press play - a place of light and shadows, tension and release, things that you know and things that you don't know. It's incredible that you can create a mood, almost a structure of feeling. All 24 songs will correspond with different moods of the day. At the end I'm going to do 25 concerts in 24 hours."
  • This is the introductory track on Sunlight and explores the concept of mortality. Foreman says we should embrace life so our spirits don't die before our bodies inevitably do. He told CBN of the tune: "'Terminal' is one of my favorite ways to start the record. I wanted to start it with an eye on the clock, the idea that this whole record represents the clock, right, 24 hours, songs for 24 hours. And if that's the case, then I want to keep the end in mind, the idea that the clock is significant mostly because of our death, and that every second is a second that we will never have again, leading us closer to the grave. And I don't mean that to be a morbid thought, but rather how will that inspire us to live, to truly grow and reach beyond ourselves. So yeah, so 'Terminal' is that story, for me, of compassion for ourselves and the rest of those around us, we the living, dying souls." >>>
