  • Jon Pardi is moving on after his heartbreak. With the help of some alcoholic medication, he's feeling much better.

I'm drinkin' one, I'm drinkin' two
I got my heartache medication, a strong dedication
To gettin' over you, turnin' me loose
On that hardwood jukebox lost in neon time
My heartache medication, well it suits me fine
And I'm drinkin' enough to take you off my mind

The song is a surprisingly uplifting perspective to getting over heartbreak. Pardi explained that his drinking is the "feel good, kind of like medication that you need."
  • Pardi wrote the song with Natalie Hemby and Barry Dean. They made the song upbeat with a catchy melody, so that it "picks you up when you're feeling down, or if you're feeling good, it makes you feel extra good."
  • According to a press release, the song channels George Strait's 1982 hit "Fool Hearted Memory" and is "something people can dance to."
  • Jon Pardi needed his dancing shoes for the song's music video, which features him and his real-life long-term girlfriend Summer Duncan.

"Singing and also dancing - it's a big step! We had to rehearse for it," the country star told People. "This is the first time we ever used choreography. We ended up doing practices in my barn at home. It was out of my comfort zone, but I loved how it came out. I loved making this video. I loved being able to dance together."
  • Jon Pardi and his team titled his third album after this song. They thought about naming it after the opening track, "Old Hat," but decided that made it sound too old. They settled on "Heartache Medication" because the record contains topics intended to make sad listeners feel good. Medication makes people feel better in the same way.
