Songfacts®:

  • This honky-tonk-ready track finds Jon Pardi recounting a story about his friendship with Jack Daniel's. The singer spends too much time with his whiskey pal and starts behaving badly. Jack's bad influence results in him getting fired from his job, dumped by his girlfriend, and serving time in jail. Eventually, Pardi has had enough of this "friendship" and he laments, "Me and Jack don't get along no more."
  • Pardi co-wrote "Me And Jack" with Rhett Akins, Bart Butler and Luke Laird in Los Angeles on a writer's retreat. It originated from his early days touring when he and his band put Jack Daniel's on the rider for their dressing room, but they'd always give them a huge bottle. "Crazy stuff would happen," he recalled to Apple Music. "We took it off the rider, and that's where I got the idea."

Pardi put the idea in his phone, as "me and Jack and Johnny Cash" - he wanted it to "sound like Johnny Cash, with a train kind of beat."
