Songfacts®:

  • This is a tropical house re-working of Tracy Chapman's 1988 Top 10 single "Fast Car." It was recorded by London-based electronic dance producer Jonas Blue after he had the idea of recreating one of his mother's favorite songs.
  • Jonas Blue first came across a young singer, Dakota, during a night out at an East London pub. Impressed by her bluesy voice, he invited to sing vocals on this track.
  • Jonas Blue's version of "Fast Car" topped the singles chart in Australia and also reached the Top 3 in several European countries.
  • The video is a Wild West love story between a biker girl (Megain Frai) and a cowboy (Ricky Flowers). The clip was shot by cinematographer Adam Newton-Berra near the Salton Sea and Salvation Mountain in California's Colorado Desert.
  • Jonas Blue has great respect for Tracy Chapman and her "Fast Car" song, so he took great care and attention to retain its mood. "Hence not wanting to change the key and having to find a girl that could sing as low in pitch as Tracy, which, believe me, was not easy," he explained to Billboard: "Dakota was the perfect fit."
