Songfacts®:

  • "I Need You Christmas" is a tender yuletide ballad where the Jonas Brothers sing about the joy of spending Christmas together with family. Released on October 30, 2020, as people worldwide continued to practice quarantining and social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic, the siblings reflect on the power of the festive holiday to lift us of the doldrums of loneliness.

"With having such a crazy year, we all really need something to look forward to," said the brothers in a joint statement. "The Holidays is a time that brings us together and is something that brings us joy in the darkest of times."
  • The second verse finds the Jonas Brothers missing their childhood Christmases "waiting for Santa to show" and late night caroling. "For us, this song stirs up memories of childhood snowball fights and finding the nearest hill to sled," said the boys. "It brings us back to spending time with family setting up the Christmas tree."
  • This is the fifth Christmas song released by the Jonas Brothers, following 2007's "Girl of My Dreams," 2008's "Joyful Kings," 2009's "Summertine Anthem," and 2019's "Like It's Christmas." Also, Nick Jonas recorded a duet with Shania Twain, "Say All You Want For Christmas," in 2017.
  • Greg Kurstin produced the song and also plays the somber piano along with Kevin Jonas. Kurstin worked with the boys on their 2019 Happiness Begins album, producing four of the tracks.
  • The soft piano instrumental is similar to Happiness Begins' closing track, "Comeback."
