Songfacts®:

  • Best known for his lyrics as Korn's frontman that focus on pain and personal alienation, "Basic Needs" finds Jonathan Davis reflecting on matters of the heart.

    I don't feel hunger, I don't need air
There's blood in my veins 'cause I know you are there
I don't need shelter, nothing at all
    The reason I'm here
Don't you know that you're all of my basic needs

Speaking about song, Davis said: "'Basic Needs' is essentially as close as I get to writing a love song. It also gave me a chance to explore different instruments and styles of world music, and step outside of what may be considered 'the norm.'"
  • "Basic Needs" was released as a single from Davis' first solo album, Black Labyrinth. However the singer has recorded other material without Korn intermittently over the years. He first worked without his bandmates when he composed music for the 2002 Queen of the Damned movie soundtrack, and has also released two live albums with the group Jonathan Davis and the SFA as well as DJing frequently over the years as his alter ego, JDevil.
