Songfacts®:

  • This is the lead single from Go, the debut solo album by Icelandic musician Jónsi Birgisson, frontman of the band Sigur Rós. Go originally started as an acoustic record, and ended up with a much fuller sound. Birgisson explained to Spinner UK: "It started as an instrumental and it scaled up into something so much bigger - very colourful and multi-layered, like some kind of monster! A lot of that happened when we went to the studio to record. I think that is where the craziness started to happen."
  • The album features strings arranged by Antony and the Johnsons and Grizzly Bear composer Nico Muhly. Birgisson told Spinner: "He did all the arrangements - the string, wind and brass arrangements. He also plays nearly all of the piano on the album, so he had a lot of input. After the strings and all of that came in, it was much more colourful, more lively. I'm really happy about that."
  • Uncut magazine April 2010 asked Birgisson what inspires his music. He replied, "Everyday things. I don't get inspired by other people's music, mostly because I stopped listening to music some time ago. I might also get inspired by seeing a musical instrument lying around. Like, there's something that can make music. I'd better make some music on it. This album was written after I spotted an acoustic guitar."
