Songfacts®:

  • According to the liner notes of Journey's Time3 compilation, this song was originally recorded for Journey's 1983 Frontiers album but pulled off at the last minute. The song was finally released as a single off the soundtrack to the movie Vision Quest, which also features Madonna's "Crazy For You."
  • Through the Make-A-Wish foundation, Journey hooked up with 16-year-old Kenny Sykaluk, who was suffering from Cystic Fibrosis, and played the song for him in his hospital room. Sykaluk, who was a huge Journey fan, died the night, leaving the band deeply affected. "As soon as I stepped out of that hospital room I lost it," said Perry. "Nurses had to take me to a room by myself." Inspired by Sykaluk, Journey used "Only The Young" as the concert opener throughout the Raised On Radio tour.

  • Chad Eicher from Apple Creek, OhioScandal did that song for their "Warrior" album in 1984 that also featured "The Warrior."
  • KerriJourney use to rock with Steve as lead. New singer is good. But he is a substitute. Too bad all the old pain will not heal for those 3 guys. They are adults I think.
  • Scott from ScJourney is my favorite band and this is my favorite Journey song. I could listen to it over and over.
