Songfacts®:

  • Credited to Lemon/Hughes, backed by "Big Punk" and released on the Cactus label, "Up With The Cock" is a song about a girl who works on a farm and rises with the crow of the cock. Yeah, sure.

Alexander Hughes was the real name of white reggae recording artist Judge Dread, and Fred Lemon was his manager. This is a typical Dread song, which for obvious reasons did not receive much if anything in the way of airplay, and when performed live would lead to a female member of the audience being led up onto the stage and dancing with the singer while holding a rubber chicken. All good clean fun, but basically a one-trick pony. >>>
