Songfacts®:

  • Here, Juice WRLD likens himself to the Will Smith and Martin Lawrence characters in the 1995 action-comedy film Bad Boys.

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, I'm a bad boy
Went and got off my ass, and got to the cash
And got in my bag, boy

In the movie, Smith and Lawrence portray Miami narcotics detectives. Juice uses their ruthless crime-fighting escapades as a metaphor for his reckless lifestyle while also touching on the two film stars' wealth.
  • Young Thug joins Juice WRLD on the track. The Atlanta rapper spits rhymes about his drug use and affinity for luxury items.

Thug and Juice had a history of working together, with "Bad Boy" marking their fourth official collaboration; the previous three were "Mannequin Challenge," "ON GOD," and "Red Bentley." The two rappers were planning to record a collaborative album before WRLD's untimely passing in December 2019.
  • Queens, New York-based producer Pi'erre Bourne supplied the cinematic beat. Bourne's other credits include Playboi Carti's "Magnolia," 6ix9ine's "Gummo," and Travis Scott, Kanye West and Lil Uzi Vert's "Watch." It was Juice's first collaboration with Bourne.
  • On January 4, 2020, an early version of the song was leaked just a few weeks after Juice's passing. The rapper's label, Grade A Productions, released it as a single a year later on January 15, 2021.
  • Juice WRLD's friend and longtime collaborator Cole Bennett directed the video in Chicago on October 25, 2019. It was the last video Juice shot before his death.
