Songfacts®:

  • Taylor Gang members Juicy J, Wiz Khalifa and Ty Dolla $ign recorded this as the end credit song for Paramount's 2014 reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie franchise. "It was brought to my attention there are a lot of artists in the hip-hop world that are big, true fans of this beloved property," Paramount Pictures president of music Randy Spendlove told Billboard magazine. "We felt we should reach out to guys who really love the franchise and build an event."

The song was released to iTunes on July 22, 2014 via Atlantic Records.
  • The three rappers spit rhymes referencing the four turtles, their love of pizza, and their various catchphrases over an energetic synth beat from Kill The Noise and Madsonik.
  • The song's melody comes from Brian Tyler's score and is repeated throughout the film.
  • The song was also meant to include A$AP Rocky, but he was in the UK and unable to travel back at the time they were scheduled to film the video.
  • The term "shell shocked" initially referred to post-traumatic stress disorder suffered by soldiers following an explosion of a shell or bomb at close quarters during battle. The term originated in World War I.

At the beginning of World War II, the phrase was banned by the British Army, though the term "postconcussional syndrome" was used to describe similar traumatic responses.

The phrase is used here in a different context. It describes a move by the four turtles in which they use their shells to bash their enemies.
  • Did you know Juicy J has already won an Academy Award? Back in 2006 he co-wrote "It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp" with Three 6 Mafia colleagues DJ Paul and Frayser Boy. The tune, which the trio penned for Hustle & Flow, won Best Original Song.
  • Wiz Khalifa has tattoos all over his body, including one of Turtle Donatello on his leg.
