Songfacts®:

  • This track finds Julia Holter singing of a lover whose farewell is cruelly ambiguous. She explained to Mojo: "That song is all about someone fixated on somebody. So, like, the person's left me, the man or woman, whatever – I'll just say 'me' even though it's not an autobiographical song! – And I'm fixated because the person gives a hint that they might be back. It drives you insane: they seem like they were leaving but it was unclear, so you keep on waiting and waiting and become obsessed with them. It looks like maybe his eyes was saying something else while he was leaving."
