Songfacts®:

  • "Body" tells the story of Julia Jacklin ending a relationship after her lover gets thrown off an Australian domestic flight for smoking in the toilet. The singer aborts their holiday and hops in a taxi, "Heading to the city to get my body back." Jacklin then starts to worry her boyfriend will use as revenge a nude photo he once took of her.

"I guess in the end it's a bit of a resignation to the current state of things," Jacklin explained to DIY magazine. "A song written about the times you're just not up for the fight. That maybe society won't ever fully respect women and their bodies. And sometimes even when you walk away from something bad you've already given them too much that you'll never fully get it back."
  • "Body" is the opening track of Jacklin's Crushing album. The word "body" pops up again a dozen times on the album's first four tracks, so Jacklin's label suggested she call the record 'Body.' The Australian singer explained to The Independent that she shut them down because if she took up their suggestion, then every interview she did she''d be asked, "Why did you call it Body? Is it because of the #MeToo movement?" The singer was not willing to invite that line of questioning into her life.
