Songfacts®:

  • Not part of the original Broadway production, this is one of two new songs penned for the movie version of The Sound Of Music. ("Something Good" was the other fresh tune). As lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II had passed away in 1960, Richard Rodgers penned both the music and the words.
  • During the 50th anniversary Sound of Music special on ABC, Julie Andrews admitted to Diane Sawyer this is her least favorite thing from the film. "The lyrics were a bit inane," she explained. "Actually what I did, because I couldn't make sense of it and I have to have lyrics that make sense, I decided the best way to sing 'I Have Confidence' was to go completely nuts with panic and fear and busy work."
