  • Bieber first revealed on April 10, 2020 during an Instagram Live video with Hailey that he had recorded a song called "Anyone." While being filmed by his wife, the Canadian pop star told his fans: "I recorded a really cool song today. I can't play it. I can't do it."

    After Bieber teased the title, the excited Hailey responded: "I love this song so much. And I haven't heard him sing it yet!"
  • Bieber debuted the song live during his televised 2020 New Year's Eve special, T-Mobile Presents New Year's Eve Live with Justin Bieber, before releasing the track the next day. Along with Foo Fighters' "No Son Of Mine," it held the distinction of being one of the first singles dropped by a major artist in 2021.
  • Colin Tilley directed the video, which sees Justin Bieber portray a 1940s-era boxer with Zoey Deutch playing his love interest. The Beautiful Creatures and The Disaster Artist actress also starred in Ed Sheeran's "Perfect" visual.

    Tilley has worked with Bieber on several previous occasions, including directing the visual for his "Holy" single.
  • Justin Bieber and director Colin Tilley wanted the singer to be as real as possible in the video, so he spent two days training with a fight coordinator. Bieber also spent three hours each morning getting all his tattoos covered up so he would look more accurate to the clip's time period.
