Songfacts®:

  • "Anyone" is a heart-on-sleeve romantic song where Justin Bieber tells his wife Hailey she is the only one he'll ever love.

Lookin' back on my life, you're the only good I've ever done
Yeah, you, if it's not you, it's not anyone
Bieber has been open about making mistakes in the public eye and his mental and physical health struggles

Hailey has been a rock and provided her husband with a sense of stability.
  • Since Justin Bieber married the model Hailey Baldwin in the fall of 2018, she has been his muse for much of his material. He dedicated his 2020 Changes album to her, and his singles "Yummy," "Intentions," and "Holy" are all about Hailey.
  • Bieber wrote the song with:

    New York rapper/producer Jon Bellion.

New York songwriter Michael Pollack and The Monsters & Strangerz production team. Their other credits together include Maroon 5's "Memories. Katy Perry's "Daisies," and Miley Cyrus' "Prisoner."

Raul Cubina, who helped Jon Bellion co-write his own hit single, "All Time Low."

Post Malone's frequent producer, Andrew Watt, who also co-penned Camila Cabello's monster hit "Havana."

Andrew Watt, Jon Bellion and The Monsters & Strangerz all helped with the futuristic production.
  • The songwriters played all the musical instruments themselves, apart from drafting in Charlie Puth to play the piano. Their contributions were:

    Guitar: Andrew Watt
    Bass: Jon Bellion
Drums: Andrew Watt and Jon Bellion,
    Percussion: Raul Cubina
Keyboards: Andrew Watt, Michael Pollack and The Monsters & Strangerz
  • Bieber first revealed on April 10, 2020 during an Instagram Live video with Hailey that he had recorded a song called "Anyone." While being filmed by his wife, the Canadian pop star told his fans: "I recorded a really cool song today. I can't play it. I can't do it."

After Bieber teased the title, the excited Hailey responded: "I love this song so much. And I haven't heard him sing it yet!"
  • Bieber debuted the song live during his televised 2020 New Year's Eve special, T-Mobile Presents New Year's Eve Live with Justin Bieber, before releasing the track the next day. Along with Foo Fighters' "No Son Of Mine," it held the distinction of being one of the first singles dropped by a major artist in 2021.
  • Colin Tilley directed the video, which sees Justin Bieber portray a 1940s-era boxer with Zoey Deutch playing his love interest. The Beautiful Creatures and The Disaster Artist actress also starred in Ed Sheeran's "Perfect" visual.

Tilley has worked with Bieber on several previous occasions, including directing the visual for his "Holy" single.
  • Justin Bieber and director Colin Tilley wanted the singer to be as real as possible in the video, so he spent two days training with a fight coordinator. Bieber also spent three hours each morning getting all his tattoos covered up so he would look more accurate to the clip's time period.
