Songfacts®:

  • Here, Justin Bieber celebrates the freedom he has discovered in Christ. He tells listeners who are "runnin' on empty, feelin' the fire," that the answer to their burdens lie with Jesus. By allowing Him to come into his life, Bieber knows his sins are forgiven, lifting a weight off his shoulders.
  • Producer and rapper Beam joins Bieber on the track. The Kingston, Jamaica, native raps a verse with a similar message of gratitude towards God for setting him free from his sins through his Son paying the cost on the cross.
  • Beam, formerly known as Tyshane and Elite, is the son of dancehall and gospel reggae artist Papa San. He also collaborated with Justin Bieber on the Justice track "Love You Different."
  • The song is the title track of Justin Bieber's Freedom EP, which he surprise released on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021. The record contains six gospel-inspired recordings where Bieber professes his love for his Christian faith, tying in with the message of the Easter holiday.
  • According to videographer Rory Kramer, Bieber recorded the project between April 1-3, 2021. "Was insane to witness the creation of this project in its entirety," Kramer wrote on Instagram. "Created from Thursday to Saturday and put out today."
  • Dominican-American producer Vinylz and frequent Drake collaborator Boi-1da produced the track. The pair previously worked with Bieber on his Changes song "Get Me."
