Songfacts®:

  • During this softly sung, smooth R&B song, Justin Bieber describes his love for his wife Hailey as "habitual." What he's saying is his feelings for her aren't momentary, they're everlasting.
  • Justin Bieber knew model Hailey Baldwin for several years before marrying her in the fall of 2018. During the second verse he references how their friendship blossomed into romance.

Just to think that we've been out here this whole time
    Workin' through the seasons
Never crossed paths 'til we had a reason
    Now let's fast-forward, look up
A whole new perspective for life
  • Latin producer Tainy (Bad Bunny, Ozuna) co-produced the song along with Changes mixer/engineer Josh Gudwin and Justin's longtime collaborator Poo Bear.

Gudwin explained on episode 3 of the YouTube docuseries Justin Bieber: Seasons that he had Tainy send him some beats for Poo Bear's own project. When Justin heard the track, he got pumped and asked if he could cut it for Changes. The pop star ended up recording the song the same night he heard it. Poo Bear's voice remains on the track in the intro/refrain and outro of "Habitual."
