Songfacts®:

  • This was released as the eighth promotional single from Justin's #MusicMondays collection, a weekly series of songs derived from the singer's personal journal entries. It was more danceable than his other tunes, taking its influence from '70 and '80s grooves instead of the Canadian pop star's usual R&B aesthetic.
  • The song was produced by:

Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins who is best known known for his work with a range of popular artists, including Brandy, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston and Britney Spears.

Julian Swirsky who is the son of American pop music songwriter Seth Swirsky and record label executive Jody Gerson. Julian has also written and produced for Nicole Scherzinger (of the Pussycat Dolls) and rapper Bow Wow.
  • The upbeat surroundings veil emotional lyrics, which detail love lost. Justin explained: "Just like in life, relationships have ups and downs. Working on this song I really was trying to capture that feeling. Sometimes things are going so well and you are just happy, other times things drop down and you are upset or heartbroken. That change can happen so fast, but it's a part of life. You just always have to remember that even when things feel like they are at a low point, you will make it back up again. That's what relationships - and life - are all about."
  • The exhilarating thrills of a roller coaster ride has frequently been used in songs as a metaphor for an up and down relationship in which circumstances change rapidly and in a volatile manner from one extreme to another. Here are some other examples:

"Love Rollercoaster" by The Ohio Players
    "Roller Coaster" by Blink-182
    "Roller Coaster" by The Rapture
    "Rollercoaster" by Janet Jackson
    "Rollacoasta" by Robin Thicke.
