Songfacts®:

  • Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson wrote this song with Wayne Hector, who is best known for penning hits for such pop acts as Westlife ("Flying Without Wings") and One Direction ("Best Song Ever").
  • Ricky Wilson told The Sun he has no problem with Stay Together being a pop record and admits it's something he "bangs on about" on "Sunday Morning." The singer explained:

"I sing about breaking the rules and ambition being a weird thing and out of sight. And I have a theory about it. Our genre is only pop when it becomes ambitious.

At the moment there are a lot of young bands who are smashing it like The 1975, Blossoms, Catfish and Wolf Alice. The reason they want to be on a global level is they've got ambition and they don't want to compete on an indie level.

So make something that can straddle the globe. The good thing about ambition is that you are never satisfied."
