Songfacts®:

  • This sensual track is Kalis Uchis' ode to chilling out with her beau. She effortlessly flips between English and Spanish, crooning, "I just wanna ride, get high in the moonlight" when the chorus hits.
  • Uchis co-wrote "Moonlight" with the song's producers Benny Blanco (Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl," Kesha's "TiK ToK," Justin Bieber's "Love Yourself," Ed Sheeran's "Perfect"), and his protégé Cashmere Cat (The Weeknd's "Die For You," Benny Blanco's "Eastside," Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello's "Senorita," and The Kid Laroi's "Stay"). Leon Michels (of El Michels Affair) supplied additional production.
  • Kali Uchis released "Moonlight" as the second single from her third studio album, Red Moon in Venus. It marked Uchis' third solo single to appear on the Hot 100, following "Telepatía" (2021), which peaked at #25, and "I Wish You Roses" (2023), which reached #81.
  • Uchis' 2020 album Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) was all in Spanish, but this time around with Red Moon in Venus she sings in English. According to the Colombian-American singer, the album's message is love. She says it is "a timeless, burning expression of desire, heartbreak, faith, and honesty," and it reflects the moon and Venus' divine femininity.

Uchis explained that the moon and Venus join together to ensure that love and domestic life go smoothly. The project covers all aspects of love, from letting go with love to bringing love into your life to loving yourself.

"It's believed by many astrologers that the blood moon can send your emotions into a spin," she concludes, "and that's what I felt represented this body of work best."
