  • Lead singer Steve Walsh and guitarist Kerry Livgren wrote this song, which was included on Kansas' self-titled debut album in 1974. With a violinist in their lineup (Robby Steinhardt), they incorporated orchestral elements into their songs, which often told grand tales. They built a following over the next two years before landing their first hit in 1976 with "Carry On Wayward Son."
