Songfacts®:

  • In "Burn," Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign dive headfirst into love's tangled flames. Ty Dolla $ign's chorus ignites the track, likening love to a "burnin' candlelight," highlighting its intoxicating heat and simmering danger.
  • West employs a distinct rap flow, delving into personal territory as he navigates:

The aftermath of his high-profile divorce from Kim Kardishan
Who's not entertained by my pain?

    West's failed 2020 presidential campaign
When my campaign turned to canned pain

When most of West's partnered companies, including Adidas, dropped him after multiple antisemitic comments
I burned eight billion to take off my chains
  • Kanye West produced "Burn" with Azul, Morten "Rissi" Ristorp, Chrishan, The Legendary Traxster and Leon Thomas III. The track samples Band Of Thieves' 1976 song "Love Me Or Leave Me."
  • A creative spark was ignited during a studio session between the two artists in Japan in June 2023. Ty Dolla $ign asked West if he would executive produce his next album. Ye agreed, and their initial collaboration, "Burn," was so electrifying that it sparked an even bigger idea: a full-fledged album together.

Though vanishing from tracklists at one point, "Burn" reemerged with a full leak on January 5, 2024. Fueled by this second chance, Ye and Ty decided to complete it forVultures 1's official release. The song appears as the ninth track on the album.
  • For many of the Vultures songs, Ty and Ye's creative process involved a deconstructive approach. Ty would bring a track to Ye, and together they'd dissect it, stripping it down and rebuilding it into something entirely new. They used this method on "Burn," a track that is probably the warmest, most soulful one on the album.

"The 'Burn' that I brought [Ye] was a completely different song. It had a whole different beat. A whole different direction," Ty recalled to Billboard. "He took it, loved it, stripped it down, redid the beat, and we got 'Burn' - and it's the second-biggest streaming song on Vultures."
