Songfacts®:

  • This track was originally recorded for Kanye West's aborted project Yandhi, under the title of "The Storm." That song's message found West and Ty Dolla $ign encouraging a girl to take control of her life. After the rapper experienced a spiritual transformation, he re-recorded the song; its message was changed to being about how everything that is necessary for life can be found in God.
  • Ty Dolla $ign has been a frequent singer of hooks and bridges to West's music since his 2016 album, The Life of Pablo. The West Coast crooner's contributions include "All Mine," which also featured Ant Clemons.
  • "The Storm" included a cuss-filled verse from XXXTENTACION. The late rapper's boastful rhymes were scrapped by Kanye, as they were contrary to the spiritual theme of Jesus Is King. He bought in as a replacement Ant Clemons, who is a member of Yeezy's Sunday Service gospel-rap group. The New Jersey native also contributes vocals to the track "Water."
  • Kanye produced the track with:

Australian production duo FnZ, who comprise Michael "Finatik" Mulé and Isaac "Zac" Deboni. The pair are frequent A$AP Rocky collaborators, with production credits on "L$D," and "Purity."

Ronny J, who previously worked with West on his Lil Pump collaboration "I Love It." A member of Denzel Curry's Miami-based hip-hop collective C9, Ronny J had two placements on Eminem's Kamikaze album: "The Ringer" and "Not Alike."
