Songfacts®:

  • A rare solo Kanye West cut on Donda, Yeezy starts of his single verse by referencing his hell on earth. Specifically:

The constant marketing of his records and clothing line.

No more promos, no more photos
No more logos, no more chokeholds

His struggles with depression and anxiety caused by his bipolar disorder.

I can feel your pain now, I done bled my vein out

Then, Kanye references finding heaven on earth after experiencing a spiritual transformation.

New level the game now, simulation changed
No more problems, no more argue
No more askin', "Who really are you?"

Kanye calls on everybody else to repent and turn to the Lord

    You pray? We pray, too
Never too late for Him to save you

We can all find heaven on earth if we get right with God.
  • West ends the song with allusions to the New Testament Epistle to the Ephesians chapter 6, where St. Paul exhorts the Christians in Ephesus to put on the armor of God as a protection against the devil's schemes.

Know the Lord my bulletproof vest

He ends the song with the impression of a gun.

Let it grrat, grrat, grrat, grrat, grrat

Kanye is modernizing St. Paul's references to the "breastplate of righteousness" and the "sword of the Spirit" with a bulletproof vest and firearm.
  • The song kicks off with a catchy a cappella sample of 20th Century Steel Band's 1975 cut "Heaven And Hell Is On Earth." Jennifer Lopez used the same sample to open her 2002 hip-hop infused hit, "Jenny From The Block."

Oher artists that have used the same sample include:

Black Eyed Peas (Ft. Dawn Beckman) on "Say Goodbye"

Geto Boys on "Why Do We Live This Way"
  • West created the thunderous production with:

88-Keys, who co-produced five tracks on Donda. He previously worked with Kanye on his Jay-Z collaboration "No Church in The Wild."

BoogzDaBeast, who contributed to seven Jesus Is King tracks and 11 Donda cuts.

Ojivolta and Wallis Lane also had a hand in the production.
  • The bleak music video features faceless and hooded figures roaming a dystopian, dimly lit city. Halfway through, we see West rapping from within the clouds while a tornado sweeps citizens towards him.

Ye debuted the clip on January 10, 2022, during a commercial break amid the NCAA football championship game on ESPN. The reasoning behind the game-break premiere is clear; the visual doubles as an ad for West's Yeezy Gap fashion line, a three-way collaboration between Yeezy, clothing retailer Gap and fashion house Balenciaga.
