Songfacts®:

  • The sequel to "Jail," "Jail, Pt. 2" features a new guest verse by DaBaby and additional vocals on the chorus by Marilyn Manson.
  • During his verse, DaBaby addresses the controversy surrounding the controversial statements he made during his set at Rolling Loud Miami. His on-stage remarks about HIV and Aids were widely criticized as being homophobic and led to his appearances at several festivals being canceled.

Threw me out like I'm garbage, huh?
And that food that y'all took off my table
You know that feed my daughters, huh?

When West ran an independent presidential campaign in 2020, most of his peers dismissed his chances, but DaBaby tweeted his support for his fellow rapper. West wanted to show his solidarity for the North Carolina artist by including him on this track.
  • Manson's appearance followed a number of women accusing the rocker of abuse, including his ex-fiancé Evan Rachel Wood. Maybe West included the two controversial artists to illustrate the song's message of suffering the consequences of "cancel culture." He is happy to work with anyone whatever their mistakes, as we've all said and done things in the past we later regret.
  • "Jail, Pt. 2" was originally absent from Donda and only got added several hours after its release. West accused DaBaby's manager of not clearing the verse, then his record label, Universal Music Group, of trying to block "Jail 2" from the album. He messaged DaBaby saying: "They tried to stop you from coming in. The people next to you trying to destroy you. But God gotta bigger plan. (sic)." Both DaBaby's manager and Universal Music Group denied the accusations.
  • This is the first collaboration between West and Marilyn Manson. Yeezy previously worked with DaBaby on the remix for "Nah Nah Nah," which also features 2 Chainz.
  • Kanye West commissioned a replica of his boyhood home to be built inside Chicago's Soldier Field stadium for his third Donda listening party on August 26, 2021. The rapper appeared on the porch of the replica house with DaBaby and Marilyn Manson when he unveiled "'Jail 2" at the event.
