Songfacts®:

  • This interlude is a phone conversation between incarcerated rapper Max B and French Montana from back when Kanye's seventh album was titled WAVES.

After Kanye West changed the name of the album from SWISH to WAVES on January 26, 2016, Wiz Khalifa expressed his concern over West's use of Max B's signature word 'wavy,' which resulted in a Twitter spat. However, rather than Max B being as aggrieved, this track demonstrates that the incarcerated rapper is very much in Ye's corner. Calling from the New Jersey State Prison where's he serving a 75-year sentence, we hear Max B give his blessing to Yeezy for naming his album WAVES.
  • The "Silver Surfer" tag refers to Max B's 2008 mixtape Public Domain 2: The Rise of Silver Surfer. The Silver Surfer is a superhero who's a part of Marvel's superhero world.
  • Speaking on hip-hop radio station Hot 97 on February 19, 2016, French Montana revealed that West needed educating on Max B.. "Kanye didn't really know who Max B is, which was kind of strange to me when me and him were talking, but once I gave him the homework behind everything, we got it together," he said.

Montana added that since releasing The Life Of Pablo, Kanye has spoken to him about trying to get Max B out of prison. "He's probably the first one to call me, outta nowhere, when his album just dropped, like an hour after his album dropped, just asked me, 'What can we do to get Max B out? Let me use my power to get him out.' That never happened before, from nobody," he said. "So I got a lot of respect for him for that, 'cause you know how much Max B means to me and means to the culture of hip-hop."
