• Kanye West began recording his ninth studio album in August 2018, originally announcing it would be called Yandhi.   The word "gospel" is the Old English translation of the ancient Greek word euangélion, meaning "good news." It refers to God's gift of salvation for sinful men, expressed in the sending of His Son to preach the good news of eternal life. In putting his trust in this message of hope, West is protected against the devil's evil schemes.
  
• The track is a reworked version of the Ant Clemons-assisted "Chakras (Law of Attraction)," a song West originally recorded for Yandhi. The new recording removes the original vocals from Clemons and inserts a different chorus from West, plus a couple of new verses from the hip-hop duo Clipse.
• "Chakras" was produced by DRTWRK and Timbaland. The new cut gets some additional help on the production from Pi'erre Bourne, Angel López, and Federico Vindver.
• Clipse comprises No Malice and his younger brother Pusha T. The pair had not been on a song together since 2013's "Shame The Devil." On that track, Pusha had explained that his brother had become a committed Christian and were now "just opposite ends of two peas in a pod."
  
  During this brotherly reunion, No Malice reflects on how his Christian faith has changed his life. Meanwhile, Pusha contrasts his success as a solo artist and vice president of G.O.O.D. Music with his drug-dealing past.
• The song also features some saxophone from Kenny G. West had hired the easy-listening saxophonist on Valentines' Day 2019 to serenade his wife Kim Kardashian. The day after, the Chicago rapper began previewing some of the new music he was working on in the studio, and Kenny G suggested his saxophone playing would sound good on "Use This Gospel." West pulled out a microphone and Kenny G proceeded to noodle his part on the spot. After tweaking the track in his home studio, he sent it back to Kanye.
• West originally borrowed some music from Two Door Cinema Club's "Costume Party" for "Chakras," then kept the same sample on "Use This Gospel." "Costume Party" is the B-side of the Northern Irish band's 2009 single "I Can Talk."
• The song debuted at #37 on the Hot 100, resulting in Kenny G's first visit to the chart since "Auld Lang Syne (The Millennium Mix)" peaked at #7 in early 2000. This meant the saxophone-playing legend became the fifth act with Top 40 Hot 100 hits in the 1980s, '90s, 2000s, and '10s. Who are the other four? Three of them are likely suspects: Madonna, Michael Jackson, and U2. The fourth name is probably harder to guess: Weird Al Yankovic.
• DJ Khaled secured an Eminem feature on the "Use This Gospel (Remix)," which the curatorial maestro recorded for his God Did album. Em's faith-based verse replaces Clipse's contributions on the original song, but Khaled retains West's chorus.
  
  The track reunites the two rap titans on a track for the first time since the pair joined with Drake and Lil Wayne for the 2009 single "Forever." The remix marks the debut of Eminem on a Khaled song, while West had collaborated with the producer on six previous occasions, most recently 2012's "I Wish You Would."
• We didn't think Eminem would ever earn an entry on a faith-based chart, but the remix of "Use This Gospel" reached #1 on both Billboard's Christian Songs and Gospel Songs charts, giving both him and Khaled their first appearance at the top of the two tallies.
• In an interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, Khaled revealed "Use This Gospel (Remix)" originated when West came by his house one day in early 2021. Ye played him a remix project he'd done with Dr. Dre entitled Jesus Is King Part II. Impressed, Khaled asked West if he could include the "Use This Gospel" remix on God Did since it perfectly fit the album's theme. Yeezy loved the idea.
