Songfacts®:

  • Karyn White wrote this slow jam with R&B hitmaker Daryl Simmons and Scottish-born songwriter Steve Harvey about resisting the temptation to jump into a physical relationship too soon. "The song was inspired by Janet Jackson because she was such a phenomenon back then as well," White explained to SoulCulture. "It was my version of 'Let's Wait Awhile.' I was a young woman myself and I wanted to write a song telling young girls to be ladies and be virtuous."
  • This was the fifth and final single from White's debut album. It peaked at #36 on the R&B chart.
