Songfacts®:

  • Voegele on her MySpace site: "'Chicago' is a metaphorical representation of any kind of escape, about just needing to get away. The line at the end of the chorus is, 'I'll be on the 7 o'clock to Chicago,' so it refers to a specific city, but it's universally applicable."
  • Voegele was on her way to the Windy City when she wrote "Chicago." She explained to the New York Post that, "it's about being in a situation or a relationship that's obviously run its course and isn't working out. It's about finding an escape, getting out of there. I was feeling a little bit cynical, and 'Chicago' was the result."
