• Katy Perry's love for all things Pokémon dates back to childhood, when she played the original video games on her Game Boy and traded Pokémon TCG cards at lunch. So when she was asked to record a song as part of the Pokémon franchise's 25th anniversary celebrations, the pop star enthusiastically agreed. Capitol Records released "Electric" as the lead single from Pokémon 25: The Album on May 14, 2021.
• Perry channels the franchise's longtime mascot, the electric mouse Pikachu, during the inspirational pop anthem. She celebrates the joy inherent in pursuing a dream.

• The song also doubles as a metaphor for the journey every Pokémon Trainer must take completing events and battling opponents. Perry said: "The song's themes – resilience, igniting your inner light – have guided my life and also parallel Pokémon's story and characters."
• Perry's collaborators on the song include The Monsters & Strangerz production team and Jon Bellion; they all previously teamed up with the songstress to pen her Smile track "Daisies."
• Mexican-American filmmaker Carlos López Estrada (Raya and the Last Dragon) directed the video. Shot in Hawaii, the clip follows Katy and Pikachu visiting a lighthouse, a reference to the light being inside us all the whole time. The pair then travel back in time where they encounter younger versions of themselves. Perry goes from busking at a farmer's market to her first club performance. "Pikachu is the evolved form of Pichu, so in the video, you see the younger version of me with Pichu and myself in the present day with Pikachu," Perry explained. "We both evolve, yet retain a sense of playfulness."
