  • If you thought Katy Perry, the pop queen who once kissed a girl and liked it, had left her softer side at the door, think again. It turns out that motherhood has inspired her in ways she never imagined. "Lifetimes" is a tender and heartfelt ballad inspired by her 3-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove. The song explores the profound love a parent feels for their child and the hope of a lasting connection across multiple lifetimes.
  • I'll love you for, I'll love you for life

In a chat with The Sun, Perry reflected on how people often search for their soulmate in a partner, but for her, that search ended when she became a mother. "It's funny how sometimes you're looking for your soulmate in a partner. It could be a dog, your mum, your best friend, your cat... but for me, it came in the form of Daisy."

She went on to explain that every night before bed, she and Daisy share a tender ritual. "I wrote 'Lifetimes' about her. Every night before we go to sleep, I say, 'I love you,' and then I ask, 'Will you find me in every lifetime?' and she says, 'Yes.'"

Perry added that the love she had been seeking all her life appeared when Daisy arrived. "The love I was missing, every mountain I climbed looking for this view, all this love. It came to me when she entered my life. Maybe one day you will go on this journey, but you will find this love, it does exist and it will exist for you."
  • Perry co-wrote "Lifetimes" with a laundry list of writers: Gama "LunchMoney" Lewis, Rocco Valdes, Ryan Ogren, Sarah Hudson, Theron Thomas, and its producers Vaughn Oliver and Dr. Luke.

Sarah Hudson is a seasoned songwriter who has collaborated with Katy Perry on multiple occasions, including the chart-topping hit "Dark Horse." Despite sharing a surname, Sarah and Katy are unrelated.

Dr. Luke, a frequent collaborator of Perry's, has produced several of her biggest hits, such as "I Kissed A Girl," "California Gurls," and the aforementioned "Dark Horse."
  • "Lifetimes" was released on August 8, 2024, as the second single from 143. Speaking with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, Perry revealed the deeply personal meaning behind her album title. She explained that during a challenging medical period for her family, the number 143 began appearing everywhere, almost mysteriously. Upon discovering its meaning as "I love you," Perry interpreted it as a message of support from her guardian angels.

"I really believe it was my angels, my guides, saying, 'I love you. We got you," she said. "We're going to protect you. You're exactly where you're meant to be. You're on the path."
