• Keane cites bands like Depeche Mode, The Beatles, The Smiths and U2 as direct influences on their sound - they started off playing mostly covers of U2 and Oasis songs. In their early years, Keane was often compared to Coldplay.
• Tim Rice-Oxley co-wrote the song "Early Winter" with Gwen Stefani for her 2006 album The Sweet Escape.
• The name comes from a woman named Cherry Keane who used to babysit the guys in the band when they were kids.
• Tim Rice-Oxley studied classics with Coldplay's Chris Martin at university and Martin invited Rice-Oxley to join an early version of his band in 1997. Rice-Oxley declined, and instead formed his early version of Keane dubbed The Lotus Eaters.
• Tim Rice-Oxley and Jesse Quin perform as the duo Mt. Desolation. The side project has tinges of Country, but both members site Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen as influences.
• In 2006, Keane became the first band to offer their fans a single on a USB stick when they sold digital copies of their release "Nothing In My Way" on the device.
• When vocalist Tom Chaplin went into rehab in 2006, a story spread that the noticeably middle-class singer was being treated for an addiction to port. In fact, it was a cocaine habit. The port story was spread by the mischievous band Kasabian.
• Tom Chaplin's father, David Chaplin OBE, was headmaster of Vinehall School in Robertsbridge, Sussex, which the three members of Keane all attended.
