  Speaking with MTV News correspondent Gaby Wilson, Kehlani explained the background of the song. "I am very openly queer," she said. "I thought that my music lacked representation of how my actual life is. I thought it was important to be myself fluidly in my music and not just in my life. My art mimics my life, so you know I have a girlfriend, and it's only right that that's what I make music about and that I'm able to put that out confidently."
• The David Camarena-directed video takes place in Guinda, California and shows Kehlani enjoying a summer's day frollicking with her girlfriend. The singer specifically cast Aariana Johnson to play the role of her love interest. She explained in an Instagram post:
  
  "There were particular reasons why I chose AJ for this video... this song was inspired by an androgynous woman, and I wanted to find someone who fell in line with that, who was 'hard' yet so so soft. I was asked 'why not use a feminine girl?', but I knew I wanted to honor the inspiration, and paint the picture of the sweet tender aspect that shines through every woman, no matter what."
