Songfacts®:

  • This heartbreak song finds Kehlani singing of her regret in giving her heart to a dishonest lover.

I can't believe the lies that I went for
Thought you was mine, but you decided to be with him though
You took my feelings and just threw 'em out the window
Feel like it's too hard to fall in love again

Kehlani trusted her love interest to care for her emotions only to find herself being misled. However, in the chorus she admits to still missing their relationship and being tempted to contact them.
  • Kehlani implies that this lover is female during the bridge and outro. The singer has publicly identified as queer and pansexual in the past and previously sang of a lesbian relationship on her 2017 single "Honey."
  • Ty Dolla $ign contributes a brief verse which recounts a similar experience. He too was in a relationship where his lover took him for granted.
  • The song is the first collaboration between Kehlani and Ty Dolla $ign to be released. However, the Oakland songstress told Beats 1's Zane Lowe that the pair had worked on other songs in the past that they have yet to drop.
  • The cinematic video was directed by Bo Mirosseni. It begins with Kehlani repairing a humanoid robot (played by model Tari Elegele) who appeared on her doorstep. The clip goes on to explore the growing relationship between the singer and the android. Kehlani was six months pregnant when she filmed the visual.
