  • Urban introduced this song in a video on his ILike (one of the many social media networks floating around in 2009) page. He said: "I wrote a lot with Monty Powell and with 'Kiss' it was a song that Monty had the title for. We don't often write from titles, but we just loved that title. You know, 'I wanna kiss a girl,' I loved it as soon as I heard it. We started writing the song a long time ago on my bus towards the end of the last tour and 'Kiss' didn't really have the thing and we didn't finish it. I was at his house one day working on something and we took a break and I found a little drumbeat and started playing an intro riff on electric and singing this melody and that title came back to me. We spent the afternoon playing at it and it wrote itself very quickly."
  • Urban explained the lyrical content to Roughstock: "Even if you've been in a relationship for a lot of years, it's imperative to remember that 'spark,' the innocence, and the first part of a relationship. Why not keep that alive - the idea of courting?" He added: "Monty is good for me to work with first because we've known each other a long time and there's that comfort zone. You're divulging a lot. Monty also has a romantic side to him - that's why we click really well when writing those kinds of songs."
  • The song was performed by Urban and eventual winner Kris Allen during the 2009 Grand Finale of American Idol. As a result of the performance the song leapt 31 places to #20 marking Urban's best-ever Hot 100 rank to date and best single-week download total (72,000).
